A Season of Gratitude at Sewall Marine Surveying
As the busy boating season begins to wind down here in Maine, we've been reflecting on the past several months with gratitude.
Marine surveying is, of course, about evaluating the structural integrity of vessels, the condition and function of onboard systems, rigging, and important safety equipment. But there's another side to this work that we find especially rewarding.
Behind every survey is a person with a story.
Sometimes we're helping someone meet insurance requirements so they can continue enjoying their time on the water. Other times, we're helping someone make an important decision about a boat that may become a big part of their life.
This year, we had the pleasure of helping a gentleman fulfill a childhood dream by purchasing a boat he'd admired since he was young. How wonderful is that?
We helped a young man find a beautiful older boat to live aboard, and he's absolutely thrilled with his new home.
We also worked with a young woman whose boat had been damaged during transport. It's especially nice to see her back out on the water again.
Every boat has a story, and so does every owner. Being trusted to play even a small part in those stories is something we truly appreciate.
Sharing Knowledge and Giving Back
We're also grateful for opportunities to contribute to the marine surveying profession and share knowledge with the next generation.
John recently returned from Maine Maritime Academy, where he delivered lectures to eight classes. It was a rewarding experience, and the presentations were well received by the students.
Next week, he'll be traveling to Washington State, where he's been invited to present on oil analysis at a conference of the National Association of Marine Surveyors (NAMS). He's pleased to contribute to the continuing education that is such an important part of the surveying profession.
Thank You
As we look back on the season, we're reminded that marine surveying is about much more than boats. It's about the people who own them, the adventures they hope to have, and the peace of mind that comes from understanding the condition of their vessels.
To everyone who entrusted us with their boats and their important decisions this year, thank you.
We're grateful to be part of your journey, and we wish you many safe and happy days on the water.
